Marvel Tales #85

The cover of this November 1977 reprint says it all — Spider-Man's mask has been torn away, exposing Peter Parker's face as he's surrounded and overwhelmed by a mob of attackers, with the breathless blurb asking "How does our hero get out of THIS one?" John Romita's pencils and Frank Giacoia's inks deliver a scene crackling with desperation, the web-slinger pressed against a brick wall with enemies closing in from every angle. It's a fine showcase for the Stan Lee–era Spider-Man storytelling that made these adventures so compelling in the first place.
