“Wings in the Night”

The cover of this 1973 Marvel reprint says it all: not one but two Vultures in green wing-suits swoop menacingly over a giant close-up of Spider-Man's masked face, with the bold cover blurb gleefully spelling out the threat — "The Vulture Strikes Twice… because there are TWO of them!" John Romita's cover art captures the uneasy doubling with real dynamism, the twin airborne figures radiating outward against a stark spotlight. "Wings in the Night" promises wall-to-wall aerial mayhem, and at 20 cents this is a terrifically fun slice of early-'70s Marvel storytelling from Stan Lee, John Romita, and Don Heck.
