Marvel Tales #270
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe cover of this 1993 Marvel Tales reprint says it all — Puma looms over a downed, symbiote-suited Spider-Man in a visually striking confrontation, with the cheeky cover copy asking "Spidey Versus Puma! Guess Who's Winning…" leaving little doubt who has the upper hand at this moment. Ron Lim's pencils and Keith Williams' inks give Puma a genuinely imposing presence, all flowing golden mane and coiled power, making him a credible physical threat to our web-slinging hero. Part of the ongoing saga of Venom's alien costume, this issue reprints Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz's tale and arrives as a fitting 30th Anniversary celebration of The Amazing Spider-Man.

Spidey takes down another one of the Rose's operations and the mob boss calls in wealthy businessman and super powered assassin Thomas Fireheart a.k.a. The Puma to kill the web slinger. Exhausted, Peter crawls into bed for a good night's sleep but his alien costume seems to have other ideas. Robbie commends Peter on his nice photos (they were taken by the Black Cat) but Pete is so tired that he barely notices. Spidey is ambushed by the Puma and pulls his left arm out of its socket. With Spider-Man down and writing in pain, the Puma prepares to pounce.
