“Shadow of Evils Past!”

Spider-Man lunges toward the viewer across a chaotic cityscape while the Hobgoblin — orange-cloaked and glider-mounted — closes in from behind amid bursts of flame and smoke, all rendered with kinetic energy by cover artist Klaus Janson. The bold cover tease, "Behind the Mask! A New Face of Evil!", sets a suitably ominous tone for this reprint of Roger Stern and John Romita Jr.'s "Shadow of Evils Past!" This January 1992 issue of Marvel Tales also carries a special 30th Anniversary banner celebrating the Fantastic Four, making it a fine snapshot of Marvel's rich publishing history.

writer Roger Stern · artist John Romita Jr. · inker John Romita · colorist Andy Yanchus · letterer Joe Rosen · cover Klaus Janson
