Among Atlas Comics' finest pre-Code horror anthologies, this June 1954 issue of Marvel Tales promises "The Strangest Stories Ever Told!" — and the cover by Harry Anderson makes a compelling case. A decaying, red-robed ghoul looms enormous in the foreground, clawing at a tombstone inscribed "He Lies," while a terrified man in a green suit fires his pistol point-blank in a moonlit graveyard — a scene perfectly matched by the featured title, "He Waits at the Tombstone!" Inside, John Forte contributes his artistry to the issue's tales, including "Behind the Door!" — all for just ten cents.
