Tony Stark hat sich zuletzt eine Verletzung am Herzen zugezogen, nun seine Rüstung nicht mehr ablegen kann, ihre Kraft aber braucht, um am Leben zu bleiben. Happy und Pepper, die nichts von Starks Doppelidentität wissen, glauben, dass Iron Man für das Verschwinden ihres Arbeitgebers verantwortlich ist, und rufen die Polizei. Iron Man flieht, ist aber gezwungen, zurückzukehren und gegen Hawkeye zu kämpfen, als dieser Starks Fabrik angreift und Pepper entführt. Hawkeye entkommt. Nach ihrer Rettung ist Pepper weniger feindselig gegenüber Iron Man und überredet die Polizei, ihn nicht zu verhaften.
