Two human figures — a woman with wide, panicked eyes and a grimacing man clutching something desperately — scramble through a chaotic, crumbling landscape while the enormous, glowing-eyed green visage of the Martian Manhunter looms over them, his alien form dissolving into the surrounding chaos. It's a genuinely unsettling composition from Riley Rossmo, whose distorted, kinetic linework makes every inch of this cover feel like it's about to come apart at the seams, all brought to vivid life by Ivan Plascencia's bold color work. With two issues left in this 12-issue maxi-series, Steve Orlando and Rossmo are clearly building toward something intense, and "Through Carnage To Joy" is a title that promises the journey there won't be smooth.
