“Golden Boy”

In "Golden Boy," Nora—unwillingly chauffeuring the flamboyant pop star Mike Rufus—finds herself drawn into a quiet revelation as he takes her to the rougher side of town. There, amid memories of a forgotten childhood garden, he shares a moment he never expected to revisit: a shy girl who once turned him away, unaware she was the very same Nora he’s now driving. Illustrated with warmth and detail by Florenci Clavé, this 1965 tale from Amalgamated Press unfolds with a quiet magic, where past and present brush against each other in a single, unexpected moment.

Though she doesn't like them, Nora is a driver for pop singers and hears that Mike Rufus is the greatest big head of them all. After being driven around all day by Nora, Mike senses that she really dislikes him. He has her drive him to the grimmest part of town to show her where he grew up. In another district, he tells her how he remembers seeing a girl in a garden and asking her to play, but she refused. He thought it was because he was too common. But that little girl was Nora and she had only refused because she was shy.
