Margie Comics #44 (December 1948) captures the irrepressible spirit of its title character perfectly — there she stands on a beach blanket in her red swimsuit, defiantly holding her beach umbrella against a full-on thunderstorm while two bystanders in rain gear look on in disbelief. The cover's speech bubble says it all: she spent her entire allowance on beach equipment and she's not about to let a little thing like weather hold her back. With cover pencils by Christopher Rule, this is a wonderfully funny slice of late-1940s teen humor comics at their most charming.
