“Dark of the Moon”

Part two of three in Chuck Dixon's 1996 Man-Bat miniseries finds things firmly in the sewer — literally. The cover by Flint Henry and Kevin Nowlan presents a menacing Killer Croc, dripping with slime and sporting an "I ♥ Gotham" button, looming over a battered, barely conscious Man-Bat amid rats and murky underground water. It's a visceral, grotesque tableau that makes a strong case for just how dangerous Gotham's underbelly can be for Kirk Langstrom's monstrous alter ego.
