Magneto #8
Cullen Bunn's solo Magneto series hits its eighth issue with a cover by Declan Shalvey that pulls no punches — the Master of Magnetism is shown battered and low to the ground, surrounded by swirling debris and smoke against a deep crimson vortex backdrop, his helmet and cape unmistakable even in apparent distress. It's a striking image that frames Magneto not as an all-powerful villain lording over lesser beings, but as a figure pushing through punishment, which gives the whole series a grittier, more personal edge. With interior art from Javier Fernández and colors by Dan Brown, this 2014 All-New Marvel NOW! entry looks like a compelling chapter in one of Marvel's more morally complex titles.
