“Victory”

The concluding chapter of Marvel's four-issue Machine Man limited series arrives with a cover that's all quiet intensity — Aaron Stack's partly mechanical face fills the frame, his chrome visor and exposed cranium flanked by bold, zigzagging rainbow bands that give the image a striking graphic energy. Barry Windsor-Smith handles virtually every creative role here, and his cover work reflects that total ownership, rendering Machine Man with an almost unsettling calm that makes the title "Victory" feel genuinely earned. A satisfying finish to a series that gave one of Marvel's most underrated characters room to breathe.
