“Les géants arrivent”

In "Les géants arrivent," young Johnny Haldane’s quiet moment by the water takes a mysterious turn when a stranger he’s never seen before thanks him for a rescue he doesn’t remember. Years later, now Commander John Haldane in a world where weather control has replaced nuclear war, he finds a frozen man in a snowdrift claiming to be from the year 3957—sent back not to change the past, but to deliver a single, urgent thank you. Written by Gardner Fox and illustrated by Sid Greene with inks by Joe Giella, this 1976 issue blends time-worn wonder with quiet urgency, all wrapped in a cover by the same team.

Young Johnny Haldane is fishing when a stranger thanks him for saving his life. Johnny has never seen him before but the stranger says he will understand in time. All sightings of the stranger over the years are wrong. By 1977 John is a commander in the meteorological military. Controlling weather has taken the place of atomic warfare. John goes out on patrol and finds a man in a snowdrift. The man tells John that he is from the year 3957 and must get back to his time machine. The man leaves and because he cannot return to the same time goes back a further 20 years to say thank you.
