☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis fifth volume in Boardman Books' archival series continues its mission of preserving obscure and unsettling horror comics from the mid-20th century, gathering a selection of rare, pre-Code tales that revel in macabre twists and grotesque imagery. The collection showcases the work of lesser-known artists and writers who pushed the boundaries of the Comics Code Authority's restrictions, offering a glimpse into the unregulated era of frightful fun.
"Waxing and Waning" in Lurid Little Nightmare Makers #5 delivers a chilling tale set in 1600s Salem, where Peter Braack’s vanity leads him to a desperate pact with a witch for eternal youth. After being framed and hanged, Braack becomes an immortal wanderer—haunted, undead, and driven by a single, unfulfilled need: to die, a fate only the witch can grant. The story’s haunting atmosphere is brought to life by Sheldon Moldoff’s expressive art, while Gregory Woronchak and Jesse Guiher’s cover captures the eerie, timeless dread of the tale.
