“Dear Sir...”

"Dear Sir..." is a quiet yet poignant slice of office life from Love Story Picture Library #933, a 1972 6p comic where the carefully balanced dynamics between Richard and Marcia at Advance Advertising begin to unravel over a single set of art submissions. When Marcia recognizes the hand of her former boyfriend Alan, whose work reveals a broken heart and a new romance with a cabaret singer, Richard steps in to help—only to find his own past stirring when he meets the same woman. Fernando Carcupino’s expressive cover captures the tension in that moment, while the story unfolds with subtle emotional precision, all lettered in typeset.

Richard and Marcia have an ideal executive/secretary relationship at Advance Advertising and seem to have perfect communication between them. Despite office gossip, there had never been any romance between them. But when going through drawings submitted by applicants for a job in the art department, Marcia recognizes the work of a former boyfriend. Alan's art has suffered since he left Marcia and now he is smitten with a cabaret singer. Richard sees Marcia's distress and offers to help, but when he sees the singer it is his turn to be distressed by an old relationship.
