Outside Laura's house, Jill wanders up to a stranger heading for the house and asks him not to go Laura's engagement party. She tells him the story of how she had been engaged to Roy and when she had come home early after shopping for the wedding, she had discovered Roy and Laura embracing. Roy points out that Jill had bulldozed him into agreeing to marry her. After pouring out her story to the stranger, Jill realizes that Roy had been right and releases the stranger to go to the party. But he stays with Jill because he had been in love with Laura before.
