“Truly a Man”

"Truly a Man" is a heartfelt 1975 story from Love Story Picture Library #1250, where Susie, a former troupe member left stranded on tour, finds new purpose turning Buck Cooper's struggling Bar X ranch into a thriving dude ranch. With Buck’s nephew Mel unexpectedly returning home—unaware of the changes and the upcoming film crew—tensions and emotions simmer beneath the Western landscape. Illustrated with quiet sincerity by José Casanovas, this tender tale unfolds in the dust and warmth of a ranch reborn.

Susie had been with an acting troupe that had broken up on tour, leaving her stranded out west. Buck Cooper's Bar X ranch had fallen on hard times with Buck's nephew in Australia, but Susie saw the possibilities and turned it into a fine dude ranch. But neither Susie nor Buck had informed Mel of the changes until he arrives home to find out for himself. And they forget to tell Mel that a film crew is coming in to shoots scenes there.
