After Gay's mother dies in a car crash, Gay spends all her time in the house with her father as she grows up. When her father dies, her father's solicitor expects her to sell the house, but she wants to live the same way she and her father had. When her home help is ill, Gay is forced to get the shopping and meets the solicitor. He insists she go out with him and she enjoys his company. She continues to see him and feels they are falling in love, but he tells her that there is someone else he loves.
