“Two of a Kind”

In "Two of a Kind," Keely seizes a chance to be near a film star staying near her hometown, fibbing about her cooking skills despite her father’s belief that she’s the worst cook in Pebblesea. When the truth comes out at sea, the film star’s brother steps in to help cover for her, and as the voyage unfolds, Keely finds an unexpected connection with him—though the star himself proves to be a hard one to please. A quiet, character-driven story from 1972, this issue captures a tender moment of connection and self-discovery, illustrated with the clean, expressive style typical of the Love Story Picture Library.

When her father reads that a film star staying locally has lost one of his crew and is looking for a replacement, Keely jumps at the chance to be near him. She has plenty of sailing credentials, but when she is asked if she can cook, she lies as even her own father thinks she is the worst cook in Pebblesea. At sea, the film star's brother discovers she can't cook and helps cover for her. Ultimately, she discovers that the film star has no sense of humor, but his brother and her are two of a kind.
