Phyllis arrives at Pop’s isolated diner, fleeing from something she won’t explain. She's hired as a waitress. When Pop has a heart attack, Phyllis runs the diner in his absence. Writer Wayne shows up but Phyllis refuses to let him write an article about her. Wayne and Phyllis fall in love, but she has a secret: Mrs. Bates, the wife of her former boss, accused her of having an affair with her husband. Phyllis fled from the scandal. Wayne brings the lawyer and Mrs. Bates to the diner; they don’t even remember Phyllis, so she doesn’t have to run away anymore. Phyllis and Wayne will wed.
