Diner waitress Donna falls in love with scientist Bart, a widower with a young son, Jackie. She’s uncomfortable around Bart's friends because she never went to college. She also fears their relationship is harming his professional advancement, so Donna tells Bart there’s another man in her life. When Jackie falls ill, Donna helps him regain the will to live. Bart says he knows Donna lied about the other man, and proposes marriage.
