Love and Rockets #10
In "Julio's Day [Part 10]," Gilbert Hernandez delivers another emotionally charged chapter in his long-running series, focusing on the fragile dynamics within a family under strain. When Uncle Juan arrives to help while Benjamin and Julio are away, Sofia’s unease deepens—only to turn into crisis when baby Julio Jose vanishes. As Chato and Ruben search the storm-lashed hills, they find Uncle Juan holding the crying child at the peak, leading to a violent confrontation that ends in tragedy when a landslide claims Chato, Ruben, and the baby, leaving Uncle Juan untouched. The aftermath leaves the family fractured, with Julio’s mother banishing him. The story, drawn and written by Gilbert Hernandez with full artistic control, is a haunting exploration of guilt, consequence, and the weight of family legacy. The cover, a collaborative effort by Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez, captures the storm’s intensity with its layered inks and expressive figures.
