Marybelle, who lives in the hills of Kentucky, is courted by Simon, but doesn't love him. A talented singer, Marybelle is discovered by TV talent scout Ray and travels to New York over Simon’s objections. Marybelle falls in love with producer Martin, but Ray warns her that Martin’s a snob. Simon arrives in New York and Martin learns Marybelle is an actual hillbilly. Martin breaks up with Marybelle and Simon also rejects her, but Ray says he loves Marybelle and they will be married.
