The main story features Lone Eagle confronting a military deserter named Delice Browder who has been tracked down by the cavalry. Browder is sentenced to twenty years in prison for striking a cavalry officer, but escapes during a transfer, with Lone Eagle pursuing him. When Lone Eagle catches up to Browder at a water hole, a conflict erupts involving Native American tribes, as a chief demands the return of a captured woman and threatens violence if the "white serpent man" (Browder) is not surrendered by moonrise. Lone Eagle must navigate the dangerous situation to resolve the dispute and apprehend the fugitive.
