Nurse Carla is suspicious and distrustful of everyone. She and Dr. Dick fall in love, but Carla later thinks he’s having an affair with her roommate Alicia. Carla tells Alicia’s boyfriend Eddie and they crash into the apartment, only to discover Alicia and Dick were preparing a surprise birthday party for Carla. Alicia moves out and Dick breaks up with Carla. A grateful patient gives Carla a check for $5000 but instead of using as “an escape hatch from a lonely existence that had become unbearable,” she donates it to medical research. Dick learns of this and takes Carla back.
