In "Can't Tell a Book by Its Cover," Li'l Tomboy's mother urges her to join the library and become a member, suggesting they bring home nice children's books to keep her busy. Li'l Tomboy agrees and goes to the library, but soon after returning home, she has a series of accidents while reading—she hits herself with a pole vaulting pole, crashes into snow-covered barrels while sledding, and generally causes mayhem. In a second story, "Patsy's Army," Li'l Tomboy and Patsy play a game of army in the woods, pretending to use objects as guns; when they encounter actual skunks, they mistake the animals for enemies with "powerful weapons," leading to a comedic confrontation.
