Volume 11 of Jun Mochizuki's Les Mémoires de Vanitas arrives from Ki-oon with a cover that's genuinely hard to look away from — a dark-skinned figure with long silver-white braids stands at center, draped in a sweeping indigo cloak scattered with stars, hands aglow with golden light as shadowy bats swirl around them. Behind them, a massive gilded gear frames a second luminous figure wreathed in radiance, lending the whole composition a feeling of myth and clockwork mystery. Mochizuki's linework is as intricate and atmospheric as ever, making this 2024 release a beautiful addition to one of shonen manga's most visually distinctive series.
