“Steady Eddy”

This cheerful 1947 DC anthology makes a big splash by announcing Peter Porkchops and a whole cast of new animal friends — and the cover by Otto Feuer sets the tone perfectly. A gleeful little pig in yellow overalls goes tumbling with his sailor hat flying off, while a bewildered, squawking bird-like creature slips and flails amid scattered banana peels behind him. The slapstick energy is irresistible, and the Puss 'N Pooch feature gets a nod up top, making this a genuinely fun package of funny-animal comics for a dime.
