Written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster, with inks by Dennis Neville, this early story unfolds with quiet tension beneath a seemingly innocent surface. Loïs aperçoit une petite fille et engage la conversation. La petite fille lui dit qu'elle est tres heureuse et que Lyman ne l'a bat jamais. Mais Loïs remarque un bleu sur son bras. Gene la petite fille lui repond qu'elle est tombe. La reponse parait peu convaincante a Loïs. Elle visite le reste de l'orphelinat et parle avec un enfant alite. Ce dernier est tres pale mais explique qu'il est fatigue car il a trop joue. Il n'ose pas dire que c'est parce qu'il a trop travaille. A ce moment, Frankie appelle discretement Clark. Il commence a lui expliquer pourquoi personne ne dit rien mais s'arrete en pleine phrase. Clark se retourne et se rend compte que Lyman s'est approche. Frankie bafouille et ne dit rien de plus. Tous les journalistes repartent.
