This 1953 Fawcett photo-cover finds "The King of the Bullwhip" himself crouched down in full black cowboy gear, holding a lasso and sharing a moment with a young boy dressed in his own mini cowboy outfit — complete with hat, bandana, toy guns, and a rope of his own. The scene has a wonderfully warm, mentor-and-pupil quality that gives the issue real charm before you even open the cover. Inside, that same whip-cracking hero promises to take on "The Shanghaied Rustlers," and with more pages of stories promised on the cover, there's plenty of Western adventure packed into this ten-cent gem.
