Lash LaRue Western #38
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis issue contains at least two stories: the main "Lash LaRue" adventure in which Lash investigates robberies and an explosion in Clearview where both a rancher and banker were killed and their safes blown open, discovering the victims were poisoned with smallpox before the robbery occurred. A secondary humorous story follows two old-timers, Dusty and another character, debating modern versus old-fashioned dancing styles, with one threatening to knock the other's brains out during a dance lesson.
Wagon-Wheels sets the record straight when a friend mistakes Hopkins for being snobbish, revealing the real reason the fellow doesn't answer—he's so hard of hearing that he once spent twenty minutes lying on top of a cat looking for a collar button! Then Molasses Mouth discovers a alarming newspaper report about bathtub accidents and frets over the danger of his annual bath.
When a mysterious epidemic strikes Clearview Junction, Lash LaRue volunteers to help the local doctor—only to stumble upon a hidden cabin in the hills and a trio of criminals using the town's panic as cover for a calculated scheme. With the doctor missing and dangerous men on the loose, Lash must piece together the truth behind the "epidemic" before the bandits complete their plan to rob the town's wealthiest citizens.
Lash LaRue and his sidekick Wagonwheels get a shock when someone tumbles down a well—but the real trouble starts when they discover who's at the bottom and what condition he's in.
Dusty claims he's been taking dancing lessons and plans to win the upcoming dance contest with his invented moves—the "Hydrophobia" dance, the "Elevator" dance, and his expertise in the rhumba, conga, and jitterbugging—but his tall tales about his dancing prowess don't sit well with Hank, who knows better. When Dusty keeps spinning increasingly ridiculous jokes about modern dancing compared to the old days, Hank decides it's time to teach the would-be Dancemaster a lesson he won't soon forget.
Lash LaRue is passing through Haslett Falls when he stumbles onto a scheme far more dangerous than a courtroom acquittal: bandits have staged a stagecoach accident to cover up their real plan to rob the town's bank, and they'll stop at nothing—including trying to kill the roving marshal—to keep their secret. With his wits and his faithful horse Rush, Lash must uncover the truth behind the phony letter and stop the bandits before they make off with the loot.
