After discovering that the island's volcanic gases are poisonous and that the natives have been deceived about a supposed flame deity, O'Casey helps rescue survivors from a shipwrecked vessel called the Santa Maria and leads an expedition to find treasure, encountering ancient stone statues and supernatural phenomena in the jungle underbrush.
Lance O'Casey and his pal Mike Bellew set sail for the mysterious Island of Loki to rescue Marani, a young woman who fled her home to escape a terrible curse—one that ages the island's inhabitants rapidly before their twentieth birthday. But the Flame God seems determined to keep them away, unleashing a violent storm on the Starfish before the adventurers must navigate the island's dangerous interior and confront an angry king willing to sacrifice his own daughter to appease his gods.
When a tropical storm drives the schooner Starfish toward the notorious Tabu Isle—a place no ship returns from—Lance O'Casey and his swashbuckling pal Mike Bellew fish a desperate sea captain from the waves. The old sailor spins a tale of mutiny, hidden gold, and a curse that's guarded the island's riches for a century, and despite the grim legends, the two adventurers agree to help him reclaim what's rightfully his. But once they set foot in the jungle, the "ghosts" of Tabu Isle prove far more real—and treacherous—than any curse.
