Hope has tried to summon the power that once transformed her into Lady Death but mystic flames threaten to burn her alive. She is approached by the spirit of her father to strike a deal that would save her but it is the archangel Michael (who is deeply infatuated with her) that saves her from the flames. Michael gives her the Eternal Scythe to replace her demonic sword, Nightmare, but Hope decides to hold onto her blade. When Pagan betrays her and cuts her down, Hope takes up the mystic scythe and is once again transformed into Lady Death just as a third angelic assassin shows up to test her.
