In "Moitié-homme, moitié... ?", a scientist haunted by the monstrous mutations caused by his own cobalt bomb confronts the terrifying aftermath of his creation. After hunting down the transformed victims, he wakes to find his own reflection twisted into a nightmare—believing he too has been changed, he raises the gun to himself. The story ends with his son awakening, his mother reassuring him it was just a car backfiring, and the boy wondering aloud how his father will react to the prank of a monster picture taped to the mirror.

In "Maman sait tout," a young girl doubts her mother’s belief that the man in the moon controls the tides—until a comet shatters the moon and the seas fall still. Years later, now a mother herself, she tries to share that same wonder with her own daughter, even as the world has forgotten what once was.
