Knights of Pendragon #8
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeKnights of Pendragon Vol. 2 #8 is the third chapter of the 'Crawl-Space!' arc, the most ambitious crossover the second series attempted — pulling Spider-Man and the rival Marvel UK title Warheads into a shared interdimensional conflict on the spider-world Arakne. The arc exemplifies Marvel UK's 1992–93 strategy of building an interconnected universe around the Mys-Tech Corporation, with the Pendragons serving as the British spine of that shared continuity. Though the second series was critically regarded as a step back from the politically charged ecological storytelling of the first, 'Crawl-Space!' stands as its most expansive narrative gesture, weaving together characters from across the Marvel UK line in a way that few other issues in the run attempted. The issue and its arc were later judged significant enough to be included in full in Marvel's 2022 oversized omnibus collecting the complete Pendragon saga.
In "Crawl-Space! (part 3 of 4)," Union Jack, Grace, and Peter track Bane arachnids to Earth with a dangerous mission: capture Spider-Man. With Spider-Man now joining the Pendragon on Arakne to face the Warheads, Adam is discovered by a resistance force that sees in him a leader worth following. Written by Dan Abnett and John Tomlinson, with art by John Royle and inks by Martin Griffiths, Bambos Georgiou, and Jeff Anderson, this 1993 Marvel UK installment blends high-stakes action with emerging rebellion, all rendered in bold colors by Sophie Heath and lettered by Stuart Bartlett. The cover, by Bryan Hitch, captures the intensity of the moment.

The volume 2 series — whose early indicia read simply 'Pendragon,' leading to its informal nickname 'Pendragon II' — was commissioned by Marvel UK editorial director Paul Neary, who felt the original series had lost narrative focus and wanted a relaunch that foregrounded the Arthurian-reincarnation premise more explicitly while retaining ecological themes. Neary brought back the original writing duo of Dan Abnett and John Tomlinson, relaunching the title in January 1992 as part of a wave of Marvel UK books distributed simultaneously through the American direct market and British newsagents via the anthology Overkill. By the time issue #8 appeared, artist John Royle had become the primary penciller of the volume, with the 'Crawl-Space!' arc's covers supplied by an early Bryan Hitch. The entire volume was abruptly cancelled with #15 in September 1993 when a collapse in the comic market triggered mass cancellations across the Marvel UK line.
