Against a backdrop of roiling flames and shadow, this 1998 Image title kicks off "Destroyer Part 1" with a cover by Angel Medina and Kevin Conrad that puts a powerful, chain-wielding warrior in direct, brutal conflict with a massive fanged beast below him — both figures rendered with intense musculature and dark, armored detail. The tension between the two combatants crackles off the page, promising the kind of high-stakes supernatural confrontation that Kiss: Psycho Circus does so well. Brian Holguin's writing and Medina's artwork made this series a genuinely exciting corner of the late-'90s Image lineup, and this opening chapter of a new arc looks like no exception.
