Kings Watch #5

Three of comics' most enduring pulp heroes — Flash Gordon in his space suit, the Phantom astride a white horse, and Mandrake the Magician in top hat and cape — are framed in a striking triptych composition that brings this 2014 Dynamite series to its finale. Writer Jeff Parker and artist Marc Laming close out Kings Watch with a cover that feels both grand and purposeful, the trio's individual panels converging around ominous green tendrils that hint at the threat drawing them together. It's a satisfying visual sendoff for a series that put three King Features legends under one roof.
