When the riots drive Daley back to the negotiating table, King and his team seem uncertain what to ask for. Many northern urban dwellers are angry that the King team seems not to understand their situation. As King later demands more economic rights for African Americans and whites alike, and plans a campaign of civil disobedience, some white supporters pull away from him. Assassination threats, and even offerings of cash to kill him, increase.
