Ho Che Anderson
1969–
Ho Che Anderson is a cartoonist and comics artist best known for his long-gestating graphic biography *King*, a stylized and emotionally charged portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. Born in 1969, Anderson emerged in the early 1990s as a distinctive voice in alternative comics, primarily publishing through Fantagraphics. His work blends expressive, almost painterly linework with a raw, cinematic storytelling style, often exploring themes of race, power, and identity. Anderson’s signature project, *King*, was released in three volumes between 1993 and 2002, earning acclaim for its unflinching, humanizing depiction of the civil rights leader. He also collaborated with Matt Wagner on *Grendel: Black, White, and Red* and contributed to the anthology *Pop Life*. Beyond *King*, his credits include *Wise Son: The White Wolf*, *I Want to Be Your Dog*, and *Godhead*. Anderson’s later work includes the graphic novel *King: A Comics Biography*, a definitive edition of his earlier series. He has received the Eisner Award nomination and the Ignatz Award, cementing his legacy as a bold, independent voice in American comics.
