About this Issue

Kid Venom #4 serves as the finale of Taigami's landmark four-issue solo series — the first Marvel ongoing built entirely around a character that originated from a Japanese manga contest entry, planting manga-influenced storytelling and Heian-era Japanese folklore squarely inside mainstream Marvel symbiote mythology. The issue brings Kintaro's multiversal displacement story to a head by crossing the 10th-century samurai-symbiote host into contact with Spider-Girl (May 'Mayday' Parker) and her brother Benjy (Ben Parker II) from Earth-982, a collision of two distinct corners of Marvel's alternate-universe legacy that no prior comic had attempted. As the capstone chapter of a series that demonstrated a non-Western, manga-influenced creator could helm a solo Marvel symbiote title from concept to conclusion, it marks a genuine expansion of the creative pipeline Marvel established through its Shonen Magazine collaboration.

History

Kid Venom's existence traces back to a 2018 joint manga contest run by Shonen Magazine and Marvel, in which Taigami submitted a one-shot built around the symbiote theme; that submission became the direct creative seed for the character. Taigami debuted Kintaro and his symbiote Clinter in backup stories throughout the five-issue Death of the Venomverse event (2023), written and drawn entirely by Taigami alongside the main Cullen Bunn/Gerardo Sandoval story. Those four backup chapters were collected in Kid Venom: Origins #1 (January 2024), which also included behind-the-scenes material from Taigami's original contest entry, before the four-issue solo series launched in April 2024 with Taigami handling all writing, penciling, and inking duties — an unusually unified creative vision for a Marvel ongoing.
