The lead story "Gunfighter" follows Kid Montana as he becomes embroiled in a conflict between townspeople and an outlaw named Geronimo who attacks a supply wagon and takes hostages. Kid Montana remains alone in town while soldiers and townspeople debate whether to negotiate or use force, ultimately deciding he must act to prevent bloodshed. The second story, "Only an Indian," is a text feature narrated by former sheriff Joe Slidell, recounting a shooting incident from his time in office involving an Indian who was shot by a rancher named Fred Wentworth, and how Martha, a local woman who serves as a nurse, becomes involved in the aftermath and confrontation with Wentworth.
When a young settler boy survives a brutal raid on his family's wagon, he's taken in by Chief Great Bear and raised among the Apache as one of his own—growing up alongside the chief's son Geronimo and learning the ways of hunters, trackers, and warriors. But as the boys mature, Geronimo's admiration curdles into jealousy when Montana outshines him at every turn, and tribal tensions explode when a corrupt trader named Gork begins exploiting the Apache with firewater and unfair dealings. Caught between two worlds and compelled by honor, the young gunfighter must find his own path as conflict threatens to tear his adopted people apart.
In "Gunfighter," Kid Montana—long retired from the life of a gunslinger—reclaims his past when he sets out to track down three outlaws responsible for killing his friend during a stagecoach robbery. With the weight of old wounds and a quiet life behind him, he rides once more into the dusty frontier, driven by justice and memory.
