Katy Keene #21

The cover of this 1987 Archie Romance Series entry sets up a delicious dramatic irony: on the left, a redheaded woman talks on the phone, completely unaware, while speech bubbles proclaim "There's NO WAY Katy will find out about this!!" — and on the right, a glamorous blue-haired Katy stands in a sharp yellow jacket clutching a magazine, thinking "Find out about WHAT?" John Lucas's cover art captures both characters with punchy energy, and the fashions (credited to Valerie Heyden of Scranton, PA) give the whole scene a wonderfully stylish late-'80s flair. With the tagline promising "Katy's in for the SURPRISE of her life!", issue #21 makes it very hard to just walk on by.
