Ka-Zar #1
Ka-Zar #1 (1979) kicks off with the jungle lord uncovering a shocking secret in the war-torn land of New Britannia: the leaders, Heinrich Draco and Captain Christopher, are keeping the conflict alive not for their people, but for their own gain. Written by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, and Niels Søndergaard, with art by Barry Smith and inks by Sal Buscema, the story follows Ka-Zar and Zabu as they race to stop the two commanders from triggering a catastrophic explosion by dropping a bomb into a volcano. The cover, penciled by Barry Smith and inked by Frank Giacoia, captures the tension of the moment.
In "Slaget om New Britannia!" from Ka-Zar #1 (1979), a plane crash strands Barbara Morris and Paul Allen in the Savage Land, where their fates diverge: Paul is taken in by Ka-Zar, while Barbara is rescued by the British settlers of New Britannia. Unaware of her survival, Ka-Zar and Paul set out into the perilous Lost Lake to find her, setting the stage for a tense confrontation between the wilds of the jungle and the ordered, if isolated, society of the British colony.
In "Slaget om New Britannia! del 2," Ka-Zar races to stop the escalating war between Heinrich Draco and Captain Christopher, uncovering their shocking secret: the conflict is a farce, kept alive for their own ends. With Zabu at his side, Ka-Zar must prevent them from detonating a bomb deep within a volcano, threatening to destroy the Savage Land.
In "Tilbage til det Vilde Land," Ka-Zar and the Petrified Man return to the Savage Land, where they witness Zaladane, Queen Priestess of Garokk, leading her people in a brutal assault on the lizard-men’s kingdom—just after she destroyed Tongah’s village and killed his family. The story unfolds in the heart of the jungle, where ancient gods, lost tribes, and the clash of empires collide.
In "Solguden!", Ka-Zar faces a terrifying new threat when the Petrified Man is transformed into Garokk, the Sun God, who intervenes to halt Zaladane’s assault on the Vala-Kuri. Though Garokk claims divine power, Zaladane rejects him—and still presses her attack, leaving Ka-Zar to stand alone against the storm.
In "Forløsning!", Ka-Zar confronts the ancient power of the Pool that once granted Garokk immortality, facing the Pool’s fierce Guardian in a desperate battle for survival. As the jungle holds its breath, Ka-Zar must outwit the guardian and turn the Pool’s curse against Garokk—before the immortal’s reign of terror claims the wilds forever.
