This anthology issue contains three stories. "The Fickle Lady Luck" follows Rick Abbott, a small-town gambler from Middleville whose obsession with betting leads him to ruin and involves his concerned fiancée. "The Peaceful Man" depicts Jim Kendrick, a man who renounces violence after his son's drivers are beaten, but becomes entangled with gangsters and must ultimately turn to legal authorities and the district attorney to handle the situation. The "Closeups" section presents three brief crime cases: Miss Adele Vorhiss, a Chicago designer robbed of valuable possessions, who is later implicated when the stolen items are recovered from a suspect; and a humorous note about a man in Liverpool who reported 23 shillings as "radioactive" to police, claiming an itching conscience.
