“Solicitations”

The League's membership drive is open for business — but not everyone is thrilled about the invitation. Adam Hughes's cover captures a wonderfully chaotic scene: a dark-haired hero in a red-and-white costume reacts with furious disbelief to a formal JLA membership letter, while behind her fellow heroes — including a figure in white goggles and a speedster in red — offer their own equally unenthusiastic "No way!" and "Thanks but no thanks." It's a great snapshot of the comedic sensibility that made this 1990 Giffen/DeMatteis era so beloved, promising a story that's as much about personality clashes as superheroics.
