Jungle Girls #10
In "Spears of the Snow-Men," Nyoka finds herself caught between two hunters—Grimm and Hart—when she intervenes to stop elephants attacking her. Grimm’s ruthless plan to kill her for her ivory tusks sets off a deadly chain of events, culminating in a chilling encounter with a feathered reptile-bird that turns on Grimm after he plucks one of its feathers. Max Elkan’s art brings the jungle’s dangers to life in this gripping 1992 tale, while Bill Black and Matt Baker deliver a striking cover.

Hunters Grimm and Hart come upon Nyoka, who has just killed some elephants attacking her. Grimm proposes that they kill Nyoka and take the ivory tusks; Hart is appalled. That night while Grimm is dragging an unconscious Hart to the river to drown him, he stops to pluck a feather from a reptile-bird. The creature attacks him but Nyoka saves him and warns him it will attack again as long as he keeps the feather. He plants the feather on Hart and the reptile-bird kills him before Nyoka can save him. She overcomes Grimm and takes him to the authorities.
