Judge Dredd: Legends of the Law #3

Dave Dorman's painted cover for this February 1995 DC release is genuinely arresting: Judge Dredd stands in full armor, jaw set with grim determination, hoisting aloft a disembodied human brain atop his Lawgiver while a tagged spinal column dangles alongside a blood bag — a visceral image that makes "The Organ Donors" feel like exactly the right title. The warm, almost sepia-toned background throws Dredd's blue uniform into sharp relief, giving the whole composition a disturbing, almost clinical atmosphere. With John Wagner and Alan Grant scripting and Brent Anderson and Jimmy Palmiotti on interior art, this third chapter of the story delivers the kind of dark Mega-City One storytelling the series does so well.
