“Howie's Tale”

Part of Marvel's mid-1997 "Lost Gods" arc running through Journey into Mystery, issue #509 promises a charged confrontation as Loki — full green-and-gold regalia crackling with lightning — squares off against a massive, sneering grey-skinned villain who looms over him with a red-cloaked menace. Carlos Mota's cover work captures the tension beautifully, with arcs of electricity framing Loki as he raises a hand against this towering threat. Tom DeFalco scripts "Howie's Tale" with Deodato Studios on interior art, making this a solid chapter in a run that puts the Asgardian trickster front and center.
