“The Air-Pirates of Mars, Chapter 3: Requiem for a Warlord!”

Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' enduring creation, this 1977 Marvel series brings the Warlord of Mars to vivid life in its third issue. The cover — penciled and inked by Gil Kane — shows a fierce, muscular John Carter standing triumphant atop a fallen gray-skinned creature, blade in hand and chains at his wrist, his expression fierce as he delivers the warning: "For that and more — you will die!" The story title "Requiem for a Warlord!" promises high Martian adventure inside, with the interior brought to life by writer Marv Wolfman and artists Gil Kane and Rudy Nebres.
