Smith's 1986 novelization of the beloved fantasy film — a source text that had never before been visualized in comics form. As the series finale, it delivers the climactic confrontation between Sarah and Jareth the Goblin King, completing a storytelling arc that draws on scenes and character details present in Smith's prose but never captured on film, giving the Labyrinth mythos its most expansive comics treatment to date. History

The project originated from a partnership between BOOM! Studios and The Jim Henson Company, announced in the run-up to San Diego Comic-Con 2023 as part of a broader BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign celebrating the Labyrinth legacy. Writer Kyla Vanderklugt (Demon in the Wood, Science Comics: Crows) and Italian artist Giorgio Spalletta (Alice Ever After, Alice Never After, both also for BOOM!) were selected as the creative team, with color assistance by Sara Cuomo and lettering by Jim Campbell. Notably, the series was originally planned as a 160-page, six-issue project, but crowdfunding response allowed it to expand to 224 pages across eight issues — meaning issue #8 exists, in part, because audience enthusiasm unlocked additional pages during the campaign. The collected edition of all eight issues was subsequently published in hardcover by BOOM!/Archaia (distributed through Penguin Random House) in December 2025.
